Narrative development

Seeing it from their side.

Just Imagine is a series of campus futures reports. Each one starts with a school district's toughest facilities challenge, told in the district's own words.

The tension

Architecture firms tend to talk about buildings. School districts lie awake over enrollment, budgets, and the programs their students need next. The two conversations rarely meet.

The idea

Turn the story around. Each Just Imagine report starts from a challenge a district is living with, written in its own voice, then shows what a campus could become.

  • Shrinking enrollment. “We're losing enrollment, and our facilities are part of the story.” When enrollment is soft, facilities have to reduce waste and reinforce why families choose you.
  • Growth-ready. “Whether through enrollment or program evolution, our campuses just can't keep up.” Portables help, but they're not a strategy.
  • Workforce alignment. “We're building real-world programs, and we need real-world spaces.” Career programs only work when the spaces are built for real equipment and real credentials.

Each report ends with an Inside story: how a real district solved the same problem.

In the room

The series went to the trade show floor too. I directed the booth and its digital wall. A Just Imagine rack out front asked districts to pick the challenge they're facing and take the matching playbook, and behind it the wall showed a real district project, so the conversation started with their problem before it got to the architecture.

The point

Complex facilities planning becomes a story a superintendent, a board, and a parent can all follow, told from their side of the table instead of the architect's.
